The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services provides training, technical assistance and program development services to all segments of the Virginia criminal justice system. DC Special Police Officer
Individuals who want to become a D.C. Special Police Officer (SPO) must complete training requirements established by the laws of Washington DC. Special Police Officers must complete a minimum of 40 hours of training to include topics on DC laws, criminal codes, terrorism awareness, use of force, community policing, de-escalation, firearms training, baton and handcuffing, OC/pepper spray, first aid, and more.
